Worked example

The two records share one header row. The nested profile fields become profile.city and profile.plan, the tags array fills one cell and missing values stay empty.

Options and edge cases

Columns are the keys found across all records, in the order they first appear.
Nested objects become dotted columns. An array is written into one cell, with its values separated by commas.
Missing fields and null values both become empty cells, so converting back to JSON cannot tell them apart.
Cells that contain commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted as CSV requires. Numbers keep their source digits.
A single record in an opened .jsonl file still becomes a header row and one data row.
