JSON to YAML

Convert JSON data into readable YAML without sending it to a server. The converter handles nested objects, arrays, strings, booleans, nulls and numbers.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste valid JSON.
  2. Choose YAML in the convert view.
  3. Copy the YAML or download it for a config file.

Worked example

This YAML is produced by the built-in JSON to YAML converter.

Input

{"name":"Ada","age":36,"active":true,"tags":["json","tools"],"profile":{"city":"London"}}

Output

name: Ada
age: 36
active: true
tags:
  - json
  - tools
profile:
  city: London

Options and edge cases

  • Indentation follows the converter output and nested arrays remain readable.
  • Quoted strings stay strings when YAML could otherwise infer a different type.
  • Review YAML-specific anchors or application tags because the converter emits plain data YAML.

Private by default

Your document stays in this browser. Tool Kumar parses, converts and creates downloads on your device, with no account or upload step.

JSON to YAML questions

Can I convert nested JSON to YAML?
Yes. Objects and arrays are emitted recursively with readable indentation.
Are large JSON numbers preserved?
The parser keeps source number text while converting, so large integers are not rounded by JavaScript.
Can YAML be imported back to JSON?
Yes. Use the YAML to JSON page to parse plain YAML back into formatted JSON.
