CSV to JSON
Paste CSV or open a .csv file to create a JSON array of records. The importer reads quoted fields and infers simple numbers, booleans and nulls.
How to use this tool
- Paste CSV with a header row.
- Choose CSV → JSON when the detector identifies the input.
- Review the array and copy or download the JSON.
Worked example
The JSON below is generated by importing the CSV sample.
Input · example.csv
id,name,role
1,Ada,admin
2,Lin,editor
Output
[
{
"id": 1,
"name": "Ada",
"role": "admin"
},
{
"id": 2,
"name": "Lin",
"role": "editor"
}
]Options and edge cases
- Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe delimiters are detected.
- Quoted fields may contain commas and line breaks.
- Empty unquoted fields become null; quoted empty fields stay empty strings.

CSV to JSON questions
- Does CSV to JSON read quoted commas?
- Yes. The importer tracks quoted fields so commas inside a value stay inside that value.
- How are numbers detected?
- Unquoted cells matching JSON number syntax become numbers. Quote a value when it must remain a string.
- Can I open a TSV file?
- Yes. The same importer detects tab-separated files and converts them to JSON records.
