JSON to JSONL
Turn a JSON array into JSON Lines, also called NDJSON: each element on its own line as compact JSON. Log pipelines, bulk imports and datasets that read one record at a time expect this format.
How to use this tool
- Paste a JSON array or open a file.
- Read the JSON Lines in the Convert view.
- Copy the lines, or download them as a .jsonl file.
Worked example
Each element of the array becomes one line. Nested arrays and objects stay inside their record, and the large IDs keep every digit.
Input
[{"id":9007199254740993,"event":"click","tags":["home","cta"]},{"id":9007199254740994,"event":"view","meta":{"page":"/pricing"}}]Output
{"id":9007199254740993,"event":"click","tags":["home","cta"]}
{"id":9007199254740994,"event":"view","meta":{"page":"/pricing"}}
Options and edge cases
- Each element of the top-level array becomes one line of compact JSON, in order, and every line ends with a newline.
- A document that is not an array becomes a single line.
- Nested arrays and objects stay within their record; only the top level is split.
- Numbers keep their source digits.

JSON to JSONL questions
- How do I convert JSON to JSONL?
- Paste a JSON array here. The converter writes each element on its own line; copy the result or download it as .jsonl.
- Is NDJSON the same as JSONL?
- In practice, yes. Both mean one JSON value per line, so the output suits tools that ask for either name.
- Can I convert JSONL back to a JSON array?
- Yes. NDJSON to JSON reads the lines and returns one JSON array.
